This piece is meant to convey a loss of emotion, the feeling that one has become nothing more than a broken-down clockwork -- afraid to be human again. She holds a ring of keys which represent the ability to look inside herself in search of something more -- but, this monotonous and mechanical life has robbed her of that initiative.

The title is a play on the name of Herr Drosselmeier, a character in The Nutcracker Ballet. A clockmaker and inventor, Herr Drosselmeier provides a set of clockwork dolls for entertainment at his godchildrens' Christmas party.

I was also inspired by the poem "Clockwork Doll" by Dalia Ravikovitch, especially the first stanza:

"I was a clockwork doll that night,
and I turned left and I turned right
and when I fell and broke to bits,
they recomposed my wax and wits."
